The NHS Confederation is a charity which provides the voice of NHS leadership. We bring together the healthcare systems in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to help improve the health of patients and the public. To achieve our charitable objectives, we have three core roles:

  • to provide leadership across the healthcare system;
  • to represent our members with politicians and government officials, and with national bodies, and to work in partnership with a range of organisations involved in improving health and care;
  •  to support our members, improve the care of patients.  At all times we strive to work on behalf of our members both to address current challenges and to find sustainable solutions for the future.

The Confederation group includes a number of networked organisations in England as well as offices in Wales and Northern Ireland that work individually and together to support members improve services for the benefit of patients and service users.

There is a growing emphasis on integration and collaboration in local health and care systems in order to make the best use of the limited resources available.  We have a responsibility to respond to this by developing more specific and bespoke services for providers and strengthening the support that we provide to our members as they seek to navigate these systemic changes and adjust to this new way of working.  Reporting to the Director of Membership and Policy, the new role of Provider Support Director will take a strategic lead in the development and delivery of the support we provide.  The focus for the appointed individual will be on building links with our provider members to identify and articulate their views about how national policy thinking can support improved provider integration in systems and support the development of a safe space for providers to reflect, discuss and reach a shared view on how to tackle these issues.

We are seeking an individual who brings practical experience of service delivery gained within a provider environment, balanced with a track record of influencing national or regional policy development specifically related to secondary care and community services.  As this will be a role focused on providing relevant, responsive support to our membership, a depth of knowledge relating to contemporary health policy, service delivery challenges and the wider NHS will be imperative, as will the ability to build strong personal relationships, effective networks and influence at the most senior levels.  Agile in approach, and with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, the appointed individual will be committed to supporting members to deliver mandated change in a way which is both impactful and sustainable.
